For those of us who like to shop for antiques, finding a new antique mall to enjoy is always an exciting time! If you’re new to buying antiques or just looking for some fun places to walk around and look at old stuff, we’ve compiled a list of the best antique malls in Kansas City!
What’s an antique mall? It’s generally a building consisting of a bunch of individual vendor booths. Since they’re curated by a number of individual vendors, you can usually find a wide array of “stuff” at an antique mall. You may find a vendor specializing in sports memorabilia next to someone with antique furniture.
At a good antique mall in Kansas City, every visit is an adventure. Who knows what you’ll find.
I’ll continue adding as time allows… (Updated 9/27/2023)
Shawnee Antique Mall – 7410 Nieman Rd / Shawnee KS 66203
I’ve been going to the Shawnee Antique Mall for the past 15 years. Although their hours aren’t as great as they once were (no evenings), they have a great selection of vendors. Plus, Sakura (the sushi train restaurant) is in their parking lot.
Glenwood Antique Mall – 9030 Metcalf / Overland Park KS 66212
The Glenwood Antique Mall came about a few years ago and filled the void left by the demise of the Mission Road Antique Mall. (If you’re not familiar with the Mission Road Antique Mall, most of it was inside of a historic horse stable…which was torn down and made into a strip mall.) The Glenwood is in an old Marshall’s, so it’s not as cool as the old Mission Road Antique Mall, but it’s big and has a wide array of vendors. (Note: New expansion into their old estate sale space is now open as of 5/29/23).
Metcalf Antique Mall – 9148 Metcalf / Overland Park KS 66212 (Reopened 9/27/23)
The Metcalf Antique Mall is the newest on this list, but in keeping with abandoned TJX properties, it’s in an old TJ Maxx. It’s just a stone’s throw from the Glenwood Antique Mall and is also quite large. It has an excellent selection of vendors and currently has evening hours. Update: As of 9/27/23 the Metcalf Antique Mall has reopened.
Ugly Glass & Co. – 1285 Hickory / Kansas City MO 64102
I’ve shopped in the West Bottoms since long before it was cool. I’ve seen numerous antique stores down there come and go. One of my current favorites is Ugly Glass & Co. – it’s only open on weekends, but it’s got a nice selection of vendors and stuff. It’s also much bigger than it looks on the outside! (I recommend avoiding first weekends in the West Bottoms. Many of the stores down there open and sell mostly contemporary decor or imports those weekends. Still, there’s a lot to be found down there – go on a regular weekend and take a walk around.)
River Market Antiques – 115 W. 5th St. / Kansas City MO 64105
Fantastic 30,000 square foot antique mall located in the River Market area of Kansas City. Four floors of fun. It’s been around a long time (because I’ve been going there for at least the past 20 years). Great mix of dealers and a lot of fun. Well organized with staff on every floor. Great selection of antiques – not crafts or repops. Last time I was there I snapped a couple Lucky Tiger pics. Plus, you can see through the slats in their floors, if you’re the adventurous sort. (Their “parking lot” is also for the adventurous — see if you can make the turn without hitting reverse. Or just avoid it and find street parking. Either way, it’s well worth the effort.)
A Fabulous Find – 5330 Martway / Mission KS 66205
I’ve made a few nice finds at A Fabulous Find… It’s midsize and a quick walk through for me generally, but it is the one closest to my house so I wanted to list it.
